Privacy is the greatest challenge In the modern cyber world and it has become like either protect yourself and be cautious or don’t come into the limelight of this world, which we cannot afford to get disconnected from the world of internet and technology as most of our daily activities are connected with world wide web, from sending official mails to paying bills it has become essential necessities . Privacy is not an ON/OFF property so it cannot guarantee you about complete privacy but here are some ways you can enhance your privacy by using software, common sense and behavioral practices .

Use a VPN Service

Whenever we think of getting online, the first things come up in mind is connecting through a VPN. But before investing in VPN the first query in mind your mind,  “do VPN really Protect Me” ?

It cannot be said that you will be fully protected but your online security begins with VPN, it scrambles the data packets so that your ISP and other malicious user sneaking around you cannot understand where in the earth you are and where do you want to go. Your ISP lawfully record your web activities and offer your set of information to promoters and different organizations that need to know something about you. When you are paying your ISP to utilize their administration, why additionally let them take your own information and sell it?

Use of Social Media

  • Do not share too much data in social media about your private life, Don’t tag live location. The more data you put the more information you leak about yourself , even a random selfie at your office can tell about your lifestyle without uttering a single word.
  • Do not browse an eCommerce website while you are logged in a social media , always logout of social media if you are not using it as they keep tracking your activities through cookies  .

Email

  • Always use separate email address for Official and Personal use, never disclose your personal email address and use it for your private work such as banking, shopping and others.
  •  If you post your email address on a public forum/website put your email address on a transparent image format or Transcribe the email address to avoid email scrapping.
  •  Be cautious about phished email.

Password Management

  • A password made up of Non-Dictionary keywords that consists Capital/Small letters , special characters , digits and more than eight characters in length is considered as strong password.
  • Change your password often.
  • Never use the same password across multiple websites.

Safe Browsing Practices

  • Never Login/Sign Up in a website until it is mandatory required to fetch their service/information you needed.
  • Never Subscribe to the website which put aggressive subscribe button in font of their home page, they will sell your email address and your information to the third party.
  • Don’t enter your actual data i.e name, address, phone number until its not necessary. Sometime entering the fake information is good for yourself.
  • Be cautious about which Download button to click, the actual one is always low on profile, the malicious ones are always big and flashy

Review Permissions on Apps & Extension

Mobile Apps requires multiple permission for multiple service but be mindful about granting multiple access while installing an apps such as a pdf reader would not require permission for location or a camera apps does not require access to your contact list, similarly such rules applies while installing the browser extensions also.

Download from authentic sources

Always download your tools and apps from authentic sources to avoid being victim of adulterated apps, as software from unauthentic sources can be binded with adware, miner and even remote keylogger.

System Cleaning

Using a system utilities such as ccleaner and TuneUp etc to Clean your device once in a day, focus on cleaning the system junks, temporary files and cookies.  

Google About yourself

Do some advance Google search about yourself to know how much of your information is accessible publicly and you know yourself better that which information to reveal and which one is to hide.

    1. DuckDuck go is a privacy oriented search engine and also they have developed browser for Android and iOS platform, Windows and Linux based are yet to come. It is better to use duckduck go as your daily search engine and browser for your mobile device. Thanks a lot for dropping by

    1. I think you have misspelled VPN with DNS. Yes you can use VPN in your smartphone, there are may VPN provider who also have IOS/Android apps for tunneling.Stay tuned about this post
